Multiplier event in Barcelona

07 January 2019

ArchAIDE team starts 2019 with a lot of energy in order to deal with the last months of the project. Thanks to the contacts collected along 2018 with different specialists and potential users of the App, we are happy to say that we received great feedback for our "final sprint"!

One of the great moments during 2018 was the Multiplier event that we celebrated in Barcelona the 3rd of December. Almost 30 specialists from museums, research institutions and professionals came to test ArchAIDE. Thanks to our host, the Archaeological Archive of the Museu d'Història de Barcelona, we were able to have sherds of Montelupo pottery and Terra Sigillata Italica to experiment ArchAIDE skills for image and shape recognition by all participants.

Although the system is not still ready and ICT colleagues carry on their work in order to have a new improved version of the algorithm, the multiplier event allowed us to show how ArchAIDE will look like and to have very important feedback from potential users.

Generally, the audience encouraged us to carry on the work and recognised how this type of Apps should be the future of Archaeology. There were also some sceptics that were worry about how ArchAIDE could affect in a negative way to archaeological work. Finally, everybody understood that ArchAIDE does not pretend to substitute pottery specialists but to provide a useful tool that will always need the final "check" of the user.

The future of ArchAIDE after the end of the project ( May 2019) worried many participants.  Our consortium is working on really hard about this. Our exploitation plan is one the most important issues of the project and we hope to give you good news in the following months.
